Job title: Community Mobiliser
Reports to: Campaigns Manager
Term: 23 September - 14 December 2015 (Possibility of renewal in 2016)
Location base: Johannesburg

Amandla.mobi is a multi-issue, multi-lingual campaign organisation focusing on amplifying the voices of those affected by injustice to build a more people-powered Mzansi. We do this by ensuring that anyone, anywhere in South Africa, speaking any language can take action on issues affecting them.

 Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Translating campaigns to a South African language s/he is skilled in
  • Work with other campaigners to develop quick and catchy campaign messages for different target audiences 
  • Mobilise people for different campaigns- this requires spending time engaging with people in public spaces
  • Organise and identify opportunities to brief and engage the public on amandla.mobi campaigns, 
  • Inspire individuals to take action on different campaigns
  • Engage and update amandla.mobi members in their respective lnguage preferences across mobile platforms
  • Manage communication and relationship with amandla.mobi members
  • Manage amandla.mobi members database
  • Media engagement on various campaigns, as required


The Ideal candidate should possess:

  • Strong written and oral communication skills in either isiZulu and English; isiXhosa and English or Sesotho and English (non-negotiable);
  • Ability to approach members of the public and talk to strangers in public places to mobilise them to join campaigns;
  • Experience engaging and facilitating community or public meetings;
  • Experience campaigning on social issues;
  • An understanding of the South African political sphere;
  • A belief in transformative social justice (the organisation is focused on advancing the issues of the country’s BLACK majority) and
  • Previous civic advocacy experience, especially at community level.

Candidates must show initiative and be able to meet deadlines. amandla.mobi places strong emphasis on a collaborative work culture, so the ability to work in a team is a must. Competency in writing and speaking either isiZulu and English, isiXhosa and English or Sesotho and English is a must.

Black women are encouraged to apply. No formal qualifications are required but a matric or senior certificate to verify language competency is required. Salary is based on skills and prior experience, however as a start-up amandla.mobi cannot match more established organisations.
