A family from Diepsloot has lost their little girl Angel who died while attempting to cross a river using boulders trying to get to school. Her little lifeless body was found days after she was swept away by the river [1]. 22 years after democracy, we cannot allow for this to happen. Together we can put pressure on the City of Joburg to make sure that they build a foot bridge for children of Diepsloot.

Dear Mayor Tau and the City of Joburg Municipality,

We call on you to build the footbridge over the stream where Angel Sibanda died in Diepsloot before your term as Mayor ends.

Please stand with Angel’s mother and hundreds of other amandla community members in calling on the City of Joburg Mayor, Parks Tau, to urgently build a foot bridge as a memorial to little Angel. Together we can ensure that no more of our children die unnecessarily under our watch.

No child should be crossing a river to get to school. not even a grown Up should cross a river going to work, Build a bridge for pedestrians to go to school and work. they are already suffering by getting there to school by feet. this could lower the chances of school drop outs. the lesser the struggle, the better the chances of finishing school.Build a bridge

Until the footbridge is built, it makes sense to make provision for a temporary footbridge at the spot. Providing this is a wonderful opportunity for the City of Johannesburg to facilitate a community-supported project – with the City providing the engineering expertise and materials and the community of Diepsloot and beyond providing the labour and other support.

The high tax rates which are increasing each year what are they for? When will the poor start enjoying or feel the freedom of living in a new democratic country. Instead, the poorest people in this country suffer most. Our governmnet must deliver. Why give raise to government officials instead of investing the money in something which benefits also the poor.

Even seeing the news a while back it was heart-breaking to see what our children must endure. Government should make proper provision and should really look into the matter of our underprivileged children, their background and should bring this up in parliament.

CoJ and Local Gov – we shouldn’t need campaigns to try to get you to provide the most basic infrastructure for the people you claim to work for – and to provide it for them while they are still alive. Please use our tax money on those it’s meant for – quit spending on those who clearly don’t need more houses and cars and holidays and jets. This is why it is impossible to put trust in the current government & its ‘democratic’ governance – they only enable and enrich the lives and pockets of the super rich or politically connected.
